Reading time: 6 min

What is a cue?

A cue is a piece of subtitle text with a start and end time. Cues appear in the Scenes list, as blocks on the timeline, and over the video.

Select and edit

  1. Open the Scenes tab.
  2. Select a cue to seek to its start.
  3. Edit its text.
  4. Play the changed section together with the neighboring cues.

Add and remove

Use the add control to create a cue, then enter its text and verify its time range. Remove a cue only when that text should not appear in the result.

Split a cue

Split a cue when it is too long or contains two independent ideas. Choose a natural boundary and check the timing of both new cues.

Merge cues

Merge adjacent cues when an artificial break hurts readability. Check the combined length, reading speed, and end time afterward.

Quality warnings

  • Overlong cues are flagged as potentially difficult to display.
  • High reading speed means viewers may not have enough time.
  • Overlapping time ranges are highlighted in amber on the timeline.
